Lennus II: Apostles of the Seals Mercenary List

Here is the list of Lennus II mercenaries and their positive and negative traits... It's still in progress, so there's not really as much information about many of these mercenaries as you'd probably like. Most mercenaries have higher stat growths past level 35-40, so my evaluation of each individual mercenary is likely to change as I find out more.
.
-The Andel mercenaries are Chest, Zock, Joad, Yuma, and Melina. All of them have their uses in Andel, but afterwards, you might want to find other, more powerful mercenaries.

WARNING: Make sure you recruit all of the Andel mercenaries at least once prior to leaving Andel. Any mercenaries you don't hire at least once are lost forever once you leave. Any mercenaries that have been recruited once before can be re-recruited using the Summon Tavern item or Hire spell.

-Zock has the most HP and can equip the most stuff out of the Andel mercenaries. He can also use
Suzan, Lelan and SpeedUp. Lelan tears apart many early-to-mid game bosses. He has the strongest start of the Andel mercenaries, but trails off in usefulness by mid-game, and ends up with the weakest stats among his colleagues in the late-game.

-Chest starts off the weakest, but has higher stat growths than Zock and Joad. He can also equip Slashers, which attack a group of enemies. He knows Kekan, Lelan and DefUp. He's good for the early game and passable for part of the mid-game, but you'll probably want someone with higher overall stats during the latter half.

-Joad can use Slashers as well, and is capable of casting AttackUp, which is always useful. However, his stat gains are rather mediocre across the board, meaning he drops off in usefulness by mid-game.

-Yuma uses Kekan and Kekun to great effect, though she can't use much equipment. She gains Wisdom very quickly, so she'll become a formidable caster with some training. She has decent Speed, and her Wisdom growth is the highest among the Andel mercenaries. She, unlike her previous, more well-rounded peers, may remain a viable option in the late-game.

-Melina is pretty much the same as Yuma, except she casts Lelan and Lelun. She is more useful than Yuma overall, due to many of the early-game bosses being weak to Lelan. Her stats are also more well-rounded than Yuma's, having better Speed and Stamina, but slightly lower Wisdom. She, like Yuma, can be useful in the late-game due to her high speed and wisdom.

-Clay is the first mercenary you can hire that has the Bottle spell. He's fairly decent in battle. The only problem is, he has this habit of demanding a fee every time you enter a dungeon. This fee is equal to Clay's level x 30. Should you refuse to pay this fee for any reason, he turns into an incredible jackass, starts insulting you, basically tells you he hopes you die, and storms off like a spoiled, whiny little brat. Only go with Clay if you hate yourself and like constantly losing money or being spit on and abandoned.

-Myra is fairly weak, and her stat growths in everything but Wisdom are below average. However, if you bring her to fight Gilray Zork, she will leave your party immediately afterwards, but you can pick her up at Sergio, and her stat gains will be a lot better, and she will gain something like 5-6 levels from the first battle you win with her on your team. If you don't bring her to fight Gilray, she will be lost forever, permanently unable to be recruited. After defeating Gilray Zork, Myra becomes a very good mercenary, and a viable candidate for your final party.

-Bai is a thief that is fairly weak in battle and has a chance of stealing half your money whenever you stay at an inn. If you hire him, be sure not to stay at Inns with him in your party, or you can say "Bai" to half your hard-earned gold.

-Gond is a powerful physical attacker who can equip Hammers, Pickaxes and other tools. His HP, Strength and Stamina growth are quite high, though his Speed and Wisdom gains are deplorable. He's still one of the better mercenaries for that part of the game.

-Cheche is very weak in battle, his stat growths aren't very good, and leaves if his HP is reduced to 0 in battle. It's the only way to get rid of him once you hire him, actually... It's impossible to dismiss him normally. However, he does have one VERY useful ability. If you have him with you, all prices in shops are reduced to 75%.

-Bo has decent speed, but low physical strength and middling wisdom. His stat growths are pretty decent across the board, though. He can be a useful mercenary if you plan on grinding his levels up.

-Karrat uses Light magic, and he is very good at it, too. He has decent Power and Wisdom, but gains almost no Power from levels, and TONS of Wisdom. His HP growth is pretty good for a mage as well. He's a pretty good mid-game choice if you need a mage. Once you reach Lennus, however, there are better choices.

-Jenka is great at Air magic, but has less durability than Karrat. She gains plenty of Speed and Wisdom from levels, yet her Power growth is almost nonexistent, and her Stamina and HP growth are pretty low as well. Her spirit efficiency improves faster than Karrat, though, so she's still pretty useful. Decent for the mid-game, but not so great for the late-game.

-Iris is a powerful mage. She's pretty much a combination of Karrat and Jenka... That is, she's excellent at Light and Air magic, and can cast Gubo as well. Her spirit efficiency improves quickly as well. She gains Speed and Wisdom quickly, but gains almost no Power from levels, and her HP and Stamina growths are fairly low. She also starts at a high level relative to where you're at as this point in the game, so she gains levels fairly slowly at first. Even so, she is one of my favorite mercenaries to use in the mid-game stretch, partially because of her skills, but also because I think she's cute and I like her personality. Her stat growths improve significantly after about level 40, though this game is easily beatable in the mid-to-upper 30s, so unless you're willing to grind for hours on end, you might not care so much about this knowledge. She's great for the mid-game, but once you reach Lennus, there are better choices, although even then, she's still pretty decent.

-Nikita is one of the BEST mercenaries in the game. She has incredible stat growths in everything except Wisdom, especially above level 35 or so, when she starts gaining 13-17 per level in Strength and Speed. She can cast Revive, Heal and Bottle, and her spirit efficiency improves quickly. Equip her with the Fist of Fury and watch her demolish enemy groups in no time flat. When she gets the Fist of Rage, she can end many battles with a single combo, or, at the very least, weaken them enough for other party members to finish them off. Her only weakness is that she doesn't have any offensive magic, but when she's already clearing out entire enemy groups just by punching them really fast and hard, who really cares? Hire her and never let her go.

-Gan has high HP, Power and Stamina, and high growths in the aforementioned stats, and low Speed and Wisdom, and low growths in those stats. He comes with his wife, Lovie. You can't hire him without bringing Lovie. In other words, you could consider them the Maxim and Selan of Lennus II. If he gets knocked out in battle, then once the battle is over, he will come back with about half his HP due to the power of love.

-Lovie, Gan's wife, has high speed and Wisdom, low Power and Stamina, and moderate HP, and moderate stat growths in everything except HP. She has excellent attack magic of all types. She can only be hired alongside Gan. If you dismiss one of them, they both leave together. If she gets knocked out in battle, then once the battle ends, she will come back with about half HP due to the power of love.

-Rankas is a very powerful swordsman with high all-around stats. He only has one spell, though... Gubo, and it improves rather slowly. His high starting level makes it difficult for him to improve much, too, which is a shame, because his stat growths are incredible in all areas except Wisdom.

-Gossam is a decent mercenary with good all-around stats... He can use Heal, Revive and Bottle, and can equip some tools. His stat growths in Strength and Stamina are excellent, his Speed and Wisdom growth is pathetically low, and his HP growth is about average.

-Polock is rarely found at the Sergio tavern, where he has a 1/32 chance to appear on the lower left side of the bar. He's not a person, but an orange round fish-ball thing with derpy eyes that's small enough to fit on Farus' shoulder. He is also almost godlike in terms of physical strength. He has incredibly high HP, Strength, Speed, and Stamina, and his HP, Strength and Stamina growths are virtually unparalleled. His Wisdom is pretty low, though, and he can't use magic, and he can only equip three items (Demon's Ring, Red Ribbon, and Gold Clogs) besides Bottles. However, once he gets some Gold Clogs, he becomes possibly the best attacker in the game besides Nikita or Dark.

-Lucas has well-balanced stats, and can cast a mean Kekan, and, when his spirit levels are maxed, his Kekodon and Gubo are VERY powerful. His stat growths in all stats are pretty good as well, and get even better at level 40+. He wants revenge for the death of his brother Ducas (Ducas = Duke from Paladin's Quest? But, then again, without spoiling anything from that game, that seems highly unlikely).

-Dark is functionally a male Nikita that can equip fist items as well as tools. His strength and speed can even potentially grow higher than Nikita's, but this is balanced out by the fact that he can't cast Bottle. He also has amazing stat growths at higher levels (35+). You might prefer to stick with Nikita, since you've been using her all game as it is, but if you feel like having Dark in your party as well, then go for it.

-Lectus has high wisdom and is an expert at Air magic, and his Gubo is pretty useful as well. His stat growths are also pretty well-rounded. His equipment options are fairly limited, though. He's pretty much an Air-based Lucas. He's also significantly kinder and more respectful than Grant, who hates him for being the Mayor of Ratsurk's son or some other stupid reason.

-Grant has fairly good starting stats, and has plenty of Support magic. But he's limited by the fact that he has absolutely no attack magic, and his stat growths in all areas are by FAR the worst in the game (1-4 in each stat and 35-75 HP per level). Maybe the stat growths get better at some point, but I doubt it. I brought him up to about level 47, and his stat growths didn't improve. He also REALLY hates Lectus for some reason and won't shut up about it. He will refuse to join if you have Lectus in your party, and he will refuse to let Lectus join if you have him in your party.

-UPDATE: It actually IS possible to get Lectus and Grant in the same party together, by recruiting one of them at Ratsurk Tavern, and using a Summon Tavern or the Hire spell to recruit the other. Oddly enough, despite Grant's constant complaining about Lectus, the two seem to get along just fine when they're actually in your party together.

-Joynus is an 11-year-old magician with incredibly powerful single-target spells. She starts out at level 24. Her Wisdom growth is easily among the highest out of all the mercenaries, with her Speed growth being very high as well, and she has this incredibly adorable skipping animation when she walks, too. She can also cast AttackUp, DefUp and SpeedUp, and she can also cast Revive too if necessary. She is very useful against bosses.  Her HP growth is also surprisingly decent as well, but her Power and Stamina growth are virtually nonexistent. At any rate, consider having her in your final party.

-Jolt is a mighty glacier type. He has very high Strength and HP and decent Stamina, and his stat growths in those respective categories are also remarkable, but his speed and wisdom are fairly low, and his speed and wisdom growths suck. He's a good tank, and can do some damage in battle, but he's slow, and doesn't have any particularly useful spells. If you equip him with the Thunder Wave, he can be pretty useful.

-Cyril has somewhat low starting stats considering he starts at Level 36, and high growth in all areas except Wisdom. He's good at support magic and can cast Gubo. He has EXTREMELY low HP; starting with 2120. He is also a whiny little crybaby that throws a huge tantrum, insults you, and leaves if he gets knocked out or his HP is in the red at the end of any given battle, which is pretty likely considering he literally starts with less HP than an 11-year-old girl 12 levels lower than him. This one negative by itself automatically cancels out any positive traits he has.

-Flash, despite his name and the way he talks about how he's the fastest person who ever lived, really isn't all that quick. He has slightly above average starting speed (232), but NOT the 999 speed you'd expect. That's not to say he isn't good, though. He does have pretty decent all-around stats and stat growths though, and his equipment selection is decent. His Gubo is also pretty damaging, which is good, because it's the only attack magic he has. He's pretty much a support-based Lucas with somewhat better speed.

-Zane has high strength and wisdom, decent HP, and his stat growths are decent. He's pretty much a fire-based Lucas that can equip better armor and weapons.

-RichJr is the son of Paladin's Quest ultimate mercenary, Mouth (Mouth's name in the JP version of Paladin's Quest is Richter, which the translators supposedly misinterpreted as Licker, which was then changed to Mouth, because just shortening his name to Rich made WAY too much sense for them, apparently). Similar to his father, he is one of the best mercenaries. He has high all-around stats, his stat growths are well-rounded, he can cast very powerful attack magic of all types (except Gubo), is the only other character besides Farus who can equip the Gomutai equipment, and is awesome. The only problems are his lack of Void spirit efficiency, which causes his -odon spells to be fairly weak at first, and his tendency to leave when you rest at an Inn; and can't be recruited again with the Hire spell or Summon Tavern, but you can always get him back at the Throne of Immortals, and the Void spirit efficiency increases pretty quickly as well.

-Mechas require a head, arm and body to construct, and are pretty interesting mercenaries. The stats they have when built are dependent on the quality of the items you use. A Mecha built with Body-GR, Arm-XX and Head-99 will have much better stats and attacks than one built with a regular Body, regular Arm, and Head-33. When built with the best items, they have around 8,000 HP, high defense and speed, and have two particularly notable attacks that do a set 5,000 damage to one enemy or a set 1,800 to all enemies. So they can be pretty handy to use. However, Mechas aren't without their caveats. You can't use bottles to heal Mechas. You require an item called Mech Energy to completely restore their HP, an item which cannot be used in battle. They also can't gain levels or equip items. You can, however, use stat-raising items on them just like you would any other mercenary. It's the only way to increase their stats. Furthermore, if you disassemble the Mecha at Karon and get your items back, the stats are reset to their original levels once you rebuild it using the same items. If it gets reduced to 0 HP or you disassemble it using the Dismiss option, you lose the parts permanently. Spare parts are rarely dropped by certain mechanical enemies in the Throne of Immortals and the Spaceship. Either way, you probably should save those stat-raising items for more permanent mercenaries. In summary, Mechas are a very interesting concept, and can make for VERY powerful allies, yet they're not very practical as mercenaries in most situations due to their limitations.
