Dragon Warrior III List of Monsters that Shadows Imitate

Shadows, or, as they're known in the SNES and GBC versions of Dragon Warrior III, Shadowers, are an enemy with a particularly unique and quite fun mechanic... During any given battle, all Shadows imitate the stats and skillsets of a certain random monster. They also have the same experience and gold gains, and, in the NES and SNES versions, even drop the same items as the monsters they imitate. Sadly, in the GBC version, all Shadow(er)s only drop Traveler's Clothes, so if you want to gain a bunch of rare drops, you're going to have to fight the original version of the imitated monsters.

Shadows can imitate most monsters, which includes anything from a lowly Slime or Black Raven to even a few boss monsters like Orochi, Boss Troll or King Hydra. Enemies like both versions of Kandar, his Goons, Baramos, Baramos Bomus, Baramos Gonus, Zoma, and, in the SNES and GBC versions, any new enemies introduced in the post-game content, are exempt from this list. All Shadows in any given battle always imitate the same monster. This means, for example, that if one Shadow decides to imitate a King Hydra, and there are four Shadows, you are effectively fighting FOUR King Hydras.

What monster Shadows choose to imitate depends on the Hero's level. At level 35, they are capable of imitating all the monsters on the list below. All names used are based on the NES version of Dragon Warrior III, though this list also applies to all future versions as well.
